suffer from cystic acne

December 18, 2009

ive suffered with cystic acne since i was 11 (im now 29). i can completely sympathise
with the people here. I find it frustrating and long for the end to this. A
good friend of mine has also suffered for many years and she is at a point now
where she really doesnt give a damn and her confidence has cleared up her skin
slightly.
Ive found that medication from the dr didnt work – maybe for a short period,
but i have become allergic to everything I was given, so cant use prescribed
medication anymore. this also applies to some antibiotics, for some reason all
the acne treatment I have had has harmed my health in the longterm.
Im also allergic to ben peroxide – although it helps slightly, but the reaction
to it is not worth me using it.
i have found that sleep effects my acne. If I have too little or too much sleep
I wake up with terrible complexion. Also when Im stressed causes me to break
out.
The winter is the worst, but using moisterisers is a great help.
Im one of those that come the afternoon, my face is producing so much oil that
it looks shiny and new spots form. I have found something that overcomes this.
Neutogena have a new foundation out that includes saliycic acid, I apply this
in the morning and by the time i finish work – in the evening – my skin isnt
oily so it reduces the spots and whiteheads. The great thing about this is that
it doesnt look like you have make up on either – its light and looks natural.
Im a guy, so by admitting to using foundation Im open to all sorts of ridicule,
but this stuff is medicated and seems to work for me and thats all that
matters.
Acne is a terrible thing, as a teenager i wondered why i had it when all my
school friends were clear skinned – no one in my family had acne as a kid. It
was soul destroying and really beat down my self confidence. But there is hope.
Ive accepted my acne and dont want to waste anymore time over washing and
obsessing about skin care regimes and what others think. In my work Im in
charge of a group of people and to get up there and instill confidence in them
I have to be confident myself.
Just find something that helps you, relax and try not to worry too much. Your
family and true friends can see past the spots anyway.

baby acne

November 20, 2009

Baby cystic acne is usually seen on the cheeks, chin, and forehead. It can be present at birth but usually develops around 3 to 4 weeks of age. Baby acne occurs when hormonal changes in the body stimulate oil glands in the baby’s skin. The condition can look worse when the baby is crying or fussy, or any other instance that increases blood flow to the skin. Baby acne is harmless and usually resolves on its own within several weeks.

cystic acne and lemons

November 17, 2009

Another home solution for cystic acne is to combine a lemon juice and rose water. The former ingredient naturally helps shrink the pores in your face and act as a mild antibacterial agent. The latter ingredient is a natural acne skin toner and also has antibacterial properties. The reason to use rose water all together with lemon juice remedy is to help counter the acidity from using lemon alone.

Once you have mixed these two ingredients (in equal parts), you can directly apply the mixture to your skin. You then are supposed to wash it off after about 15 to 30 minutes. Take note that you may feel a stinging sensation on initial application. If the irritation continues, you should stop this treatment immediately.

quick cystic acne tips

October 21, 2009

quick cystic acne tips

1) Avoid greasy food, especially french fries and stuff from Kentucky
    Fried Chicken.ken
 2) Avoid dairy products (milk and cheese). Don’t eat pizza, and if you like
    cereal than use skim milk.
 3) Take a tablespoon of safflower oil daily (sold in virtually
any grocery store. A good brand is “Hollywood”). Keep in
refrigerator after opening. This provides essential fatty acids
which are of great importance to skin, and in some people are
all that is necessary to clear up their acne.
 4) The best soap I’ve come acrosss is Basis. It is non-comedegenic and
doesn’t make the skin too dry. Use the normal skin or the extra dry skin
formula. Wash face 3 times daily with lukewarm water.
 5) Take a moderately dosed multi-vitamin, such as Centrum.

hopefully those cystic acne tips will help you :)

cystic acne and ortho t-c

October 13, 2009

Cytic acne I’m not sure about, but O. T-C is supposed to be helpful with
breakouts – especially premenstrual ones.    I’ve heard that the only way to
clear up cystic acne (esp. bad) is by using Accutane, but this could be wrong.
In any case, Accutane would be the best medication for the job.
I had cystic acne and Accutane has cleared that up.
I am also on Ortho T-C, but I can’t say if it’s beneficial yet as I am also on
a second course of Accutane at the moment… so any improvements are probably
due to the Accutane.   But I would flare up around my period, so I’m sure the
pills will help with that once I’m off Accutane.  (Hopefully it will help
during the whole month!)   If not, I might have to look for a different BC
pill.

What is the definition of cystic acne

October 13, 2009

What is the definition of cystic acne?

Cystic acne basically means that instead of having just clogged pores, a
cyst develops and the skin can take on a bumpy or lumpy consistency
rather than just blackheads, etc.  A cyst is a little sac that contains
various kinds of stuff — dead tissue, fluids, oils.

Usually some sort of minor “surgery” is required by a doctor to remove
the cysts.  Accutane is now recommended for this type of acne rather than
for blackhead type because Accutane is a very powerful but effective drug
that has side effects that must be respected.

Chocolate does cause cystic acne !

October 2, 2009

Colorado State University researcher Loren Cordain is turning the
dermatology world on its blackhead.
Your dermatologist was wrong, according to Cordain. Chocolate does cause
acne and so does just about every other high-fat, high-sugar, refined food
common in a Western diet, he said.
Cordain, who jumped into the national media spotlight a year ago with the
publication of his Paleo Diet, dubbed the “caveman diet,” has found a
back-to-basics diet of lean meat, fish, fresh fruits and vegetables prevents
acne as well as heart disease and obesity.
His latest study, which will be published in the Dec. 15 edition of the
journal Archive of Dermatology, found acne is nonexistent in people in
primitive cultures who eat uncomplicated diets not influenced by the West.
Cordain, a CSU professor of health and exercise science, worked with a team
of five scientists from around the country and studied more than 1,300
Kitivan Islanders of Papua New Guinea and the Ache hunter-gatherers of
Paraguay.
The scientists did not observe a single case of active acne among the study
subjects. The unblemished skin of the two unrelated groups could not be
explained by genetic factors and were likely the result diet, Cordain said.
The Kitivans eat mainly fruit, fish and tubers, while the Ache
hunter-gatherers’ diet includes wild and foraged foods, locally cultivated
food and a small percentage of Western foods obtained from external sources,
according to the study.
In Westernized societies, acne is a nearly universal skin disease afflicting
between 79 percent to 95 percent of adolescents, Cordain said.
In 1970, German researcher Gerd Plewig compared two controlled groups of
teenagers and published a study that concluded diet did not influence acne.
One control group, which was not allowed to eat chocolate, had the same rate
of acne as the group that was fed chocolate.
Plewig’s study was considered a landmark finding, but his research was
flawed because he failed to take a wider view of what the subjects were
eating, Cordain said.
Both of Plewig’s control groups ate the same level of “high-glycemic” foods
such as white bread, cakes, sugars, soft drinks, potatoes and white rice,
Cordain said.
“I’m not a dermatologist, yet I cracked one of the greatest mysteries by
solving this acne problem,” Cordain said.
Dr. Anne-Lise Hultsch, a Fort Collins dermatologist, was unfamiliar with the
study, but said the journal was very reputable.
“We may have to re-address this issue,” she said. “The (current medical)
climate is to rethink what we are doing holistically. I spend my whole day
seeing teenagers with acne. I don’t think our grandparents (had acne to this
degree.) It makes sense (that it could be related to dietary changes.)”
Now that the study is complete, it will be interesting to see if dietary
changes reduce acne, she said.
For the past 15 years, Cordain has tried to determine what diet best fits
human genetics, he said.
“This is evolutionary medicine,” Cordain said. “Despite all our technology,
our genome has been shaped by natural selection. So, if you look at an
animal in the San Diego Zoo, to learn how to feed and care for the animal,
you need to go find out what it eats and where it roosts so it doesn’t get
sick in a zoo environment. With humans, it’s no different.”
The research is fascinating, said Gay Israel, director of the CSU exercise
science department. It’s attracting media attention from around the world
including Dan Rather, “60 Minutes” and the BBC, Israel said.
“This research, whether it’s dermatology or obesity, is about having a true
understanding of what our genes are designed to do, ” Israel said. “This is
very important.”

teenager cystic acne outbreaks

October 2, 2009

When I was a teenager, we dealt with cystic acne outbreaks by  washing
regularly and otherwise simply living with it. Much like I live with
the lines now forming on my forehead.  But these are modern times,
and I thought that perhaps I could offer better help to my pre-teen
daughter, who now gets mild outbreaks on her forehead near her
hairline.

I’ll mention the skin problems to her doctor at the next visit, but
since
it’s quite mild – not scar-producing as far as I can tell – it might not
warrant a visit to a dermatologist under our HMO. Besides, the doctor’s
visit is scheduled for two months from now. I thought of taking her to
a day spa in our neighborhood that does specialized skin care facials
for teens. Has anyone tried anything like this, and does it work? If
not,
I’d rather save the $70+.
Or is there some amazing website out there that will tell me all we
need to know? I realize that acne hardly rates up there as one of the
most compelling topics for mkm, but at least most of us have had some
degree of experience with this one. So, any helpful advice?
